    Below the Tides: Zero Starving Sea Turtles

    Sea turtles are classified as endangered species. They play a crucial role in maintaining marine food chains and ecosystems. They are recognized as ecological keystone species that provide habitat for other marine life, thereby contributing to biodiversity. The declining sea turtle populations have far-reaching consequences for the marine environment. The absence of sea turtles also poses challenges for both predator and prey populations. Did you know that only about 0.1%-0.2% of hatchlings survive to adulthood? However, sea turtle hatchlings, when subjected to nurturing care and a preparatory period lasting a minimum of 6 months, exhibit an impressive survival rate, reaching up to 70%. This stands in stark contrast to the mere 0.1% survival rate documented when these hatchlings are left within their natural environment. The receipt of greater financial support would lead to significant multiplier effects on marine biodiversity, given that sea turtles play a keystone role in their ecosystem. The funds from this project will be provided to the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources to raise populations of healthy sea turtle hatchlings back to their home sea.

    ปัจจุบันมูลนิธิอนุรักษ์ช้างและสิ่งแวดล้อม มีช้างที่อยู่ในความดูแลทั้งสิ้น 101 เชือก โดยกว่า 70 เปอร์เซ็น เป็นช้างแก่ ช้างขาพิการ ช้างเป็นสัตว์ใหญ่ที่มีน้ำหนักมาก ขาและเท้าของช้างจึงมีความสำคัญอย่างยิ่งต่อสุขภาพกายของช้าง เพราะเท้าช้างเป็นส่วนที่รองรับน้ำหนัก ถ้าช้างมีปัญหาที่เท้าจะส่งผลต่อการดำเนินชีวิตอย่างมาก ช้างที่ได้รับบาดเจ็บจากการเหยียบกับระเบิด จากอุบัติเหตุ และ จากการถูกบังคับให้เดินตามถนนคอนกรีต หรือ แบกน้ำหนักนักท่องเที่ยว มีแผลที่ต้องได้รับการรักษาทุกวัน เช่น น้องไทคูน น้องขุนเดช ที่เหยียบกับระเบิด ต้องได้รับการทำแผลวันละ 2 ครั้ง และต้องรักษาต่อเนื่อง หลายเชือกต้องใส่ถุงเท้าตลอดเวลาเพื่อป้องกันการติดเชื้อจากพื้นดิน ค่าใช้จ่ายดูแลในแต่ละปีจึงเป็นจำนวนมหาศาล
