Adopt a Coral Reef Today

In the New Heaven Reef Conservation Program at Koh Tao, Surat Thaini, we collect damaged corals that are then treated and cured in our nurseries before they are returned, as living corals, to natural reef environments. For this project there are no restrictions (no minimum requirements) as to the size, type or temporal nature of the contribution: as such contributions may be made entirely at the discretion of the donor(s).Moreover, volunteers are more than welcome to working with us at the project site in Koh Tao.

ที่มา/ความสำคัญโครงการ :

New Haven Reef Conservation Program (NHRCP) was initiated in 2007 to teach divers about coral reef ecology, research, and restoration.

Meaningful marine preservation, however, requires far more than the efforts of a small group of people--no matter how dedicated--as it is a complex task, involving a diverse, and wide-ranging, set of activities.

To illustrate: In order to ensure that the coral reefs can actually survive and grow, the Coral Patronize Project not only requires the building of nurseries but also on-going activities such as continuous care, research, water analysis, and garbage removal: comprehensive and continuous effort is the key. This requires knowledge, appropriate technology, human effort, financial support, time, and most importantly, the commitment and dedication of our team (including volunteers).

ประโยชน์ของโครงการ :

  • Protection, conservation and expansion of healthy and resilient coral reef ecosystems
  • Increased marine population and diversity of the marine ecosystem
  • Substantive mitigation of the negative effects of coastal erosion
  • Increased public awareness of, and support for, marine protection and conservation

กิจกรรมที่จะดำเนินโครงการ :

Coral Patronize Project

1. Collect the damaged corals to the nursery

2. Build the nursery home underwater for the collected corals

3. Continuous research, data collection, monitoring, and maintenance of the nurseries, corals, and marine ecosystem all year long

4. Transfer strong/healthy corals from the nurseries to the natural coral reefs

สมาชิกภายในทีม :

Dev, Chad and Shin are three guys from three different continents. Despite their diverse ethnic backgrounds, and emerging from their love of diving, the three friends share a deep passion and love for, and common interest in protecting, marine ecosystems. As a consequence of their shared passion, they established the "New Heaven" diving school in Kho Tao (Tao Island) which is loctaed in one of the most beautiful diving areas in Southern Thailand.

Dev (Devrim Zahir)  from Cyprus, has now been living in Thailand for more than 20 years. He is commited to protecting the marine environment of Kho Tao—an island which he today regards as his home.

Chad (Chad Scott) from USA holds a degree in Environmental Science. He conducted an internship with  CPAD (Coastal Preservation and Development Foundation) on Kho Tao during which he fell in love with the Aao Thai sea. Like Dev, Chad is commited to protecting the marine environment of Kho Tao and believes that the education of tourists, in terms of ecological awareness and responsible travel, is critical to meaningful conservation activities such as coral implantation.

Shin (Sirachai Aroonraktichai) is from Thailand. He graduated from Mahidol International College with a degree in Environmental Science. Shin has always been fascinated by sharks. More recently, on a trip to Kho Tao, he formed his dream of becoming an active and engaged environmentalist by applying his scientific knowledge to creating suitable environments for marine species. One example of Shin’s engagement is his on-going research in the “Biorock”* project.
