"To assist impoverished elderly patients by providing adult diapers during illness and 'Care Packages' (containing essential items such as rice, canned fish, milk, eggs, dried food, and specialized food for the bedridden), which are critical necessities for vulnerable families."

"Over 300 individuals/families are cared for by the 'Volunteer Visit' project, the majority of whom are elderly and impoverished bedridden patients."

"In addition to facing physical illnesses that are often difficult to treat, both the patients and their caregivers must contend with severe stress stemming from physical limitations. This stress leads to mental anguish and the struggle of daily life characterized by a lack of basic necessities."

"Given these challenges, we believe that the activities carried out by the 'Volunteer Visit' project will help alleviate this mental distress and stress, offering them encouragement to continue living with dignity and to avoid undue hardship in society. This is achieved through the cooperation and kindness of the community, working together to create a society with well-being (Well-Being) for all."

Social issues

"The Volunteer Visit Project (โครงการอาสามาเยี่ยม) is one of the Mirror Foundation’s initiatives. It has been operating since 2011, during the major nationwide floods, by visiting the elderly, the sick, the disabled, low-income individuals, and their families to 'heal and encourage' them and to provide support resources for their daily lives. Currently, the project assists impoverished patients, the poor, and the elderly across the country."

"The activities carried out by the Volunteer Visit Project extend beyond adult diapers. They may also include diapers for disabled children in impoverished families, and essential goods (rice, milk, snacks, porridge, canned fish, eggs, dried food, household supplies, etc.). These items are equally crucial for vulnerable elderly, sick, disabled, and low-income families, as the monthly consumption cost for these supplies and for feeding the family constitutes a significant financial burden."

"The support provided in the 'Care Packages' (ถุงกำลังใจ) for each case includes not only consumables but also items such as mattresses, pillows, mosquito nets, etc."

"Currently, the project delivers essential goods to approximately 300 cases of patients, the elderly, the disabled, and low-income individuals monthly. Each case receives 10 kilograms of rice per household, along with the 'Care Packages' (ถุงกำลังใจ) survival kits containing dried food, totaling 300 kits per month. Therefore, these 'Care Packages' are extremely important and necessary every single month, significantly reducing the financial burden on vulnerable households."

Benefits of the Activities:

  • To participate in sharing essential goods with those in need.

  • To participate in visiting and encouraging the sick, elderly, and disabled in low-income communities.

  • To alleviate the monthly costs of essential goods and consumables for vulnerable households with insufficient income.

  • To open up opportunities for community participation in volunteer work and to provide a space for the elderly in the communities to engage in activities together.

Expected Outcomes:

  • The elderly, the bedridden patients, and vulnerable family members will experience increased morale and happiness.

  • A collaborative network will be established among the elderly in nursing homes and those living in communities. This network will serve as a base for assisting and developing the quality of life for the elderly in vulnerable households—a major challenge currently facing Thailand and the world.

Approaches to addressing issues

  1. Home visits: The volunteer team will go to homes to engage in conversation and provide encouragement to the patients.

  2. Distribution of essential items, such as adult diapers, medical equipment, and various consumables, to reduce the financial burden on the families.

  3. Organizing recreational activities, including singing and karaoke sessions, and providing snacks and beverages for the elderly residents at the Bangkhen Men's Home for the Aged.

Operational Plan

  1. Conduct home visits to patients and the elderly to converse with and encourage them, while providing essential daily necessities, such as adult diapers and various consumer goods, to reduce living expenses for vulnerable families.
