This campaign delivers fully nutritious and secure meals from Scholars of Sustenance Foundation to communities in need in 4 provinces, namely Bangkok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. We also aim to tackle hunger issues in marginalized communities over the countries, covering vulnerable groups, children, and elderly.

Social issues

The food crisis in Thailand stems from social inequality, with a significant number of households living below the poverty line facing challenges in accessing nutritious food. Conversely, a large quantity of consumable food is consistently discarded without being utilized or processed for its benefits. Thailand's waste management system exacerbates the issue, resulting in a substantial amount of food waste being dumped, contributing to pollution and global warming.

To address these challenges, SOS ensures that all surplus food is maximally utilized. It verifies that the excess food is delivered to local communities, minimizing food waste and its environmental impact. This approach also aims to benefit the well-being of people residing in these communities.

To tackle these problems, SOS commits to using all excess food productively, ensuring its delivery to local communities and reducing the amount of food waste that may end up in landfills. This helps prevent environmental issues within the region.

The daily operations of the foundation involve two main components:

  1. Donor Management System: This system oversees the process of receiving food donations.

  2. Recipient Management System: This system manages the distribution of donated food to the communities in need.

The food rescue program is an expansion of the foundation's operations, occurring before the actual donation to communities. This program operates daily to ensure that surplus food is utilized to its fullest potential and directly benefits local communities.

Approaches to addressing issues

  1. [Social Aspect] 1. Alleviating and improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations by ensuring equal access to nutritious and affordable food. 2. Reducing the financial burden on food expenses for individuals facing scarcity.

  2. [Environmental Aspect] 1. Mitigating food waste issues in the food supply chain system in Thailand. 2. Decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions originating from excess food.

Operational Plan

  1. Contact the community leader who is already a recipient of food donations from the foundation. They have a good understanding of surplus food and can provide guidance and assistance to the community in the area

  2. Check the readiness of the community, including whether there is a designated location and necessary equipment for setting up a food distribution point. If the community is prepared, foundation staff responsible for food safety will visit to provide guidance on establishing and ensuring the safety of the community food distribution.

  3. Coordinate with the surplus food pickup team to distribute ingredients in three parts: - Deliver the first portion to the community leader for preparation and distribution to residents in the community. - Bring the second portion to the kitchen for cooking, and distribute prepared meals to other communities. - Take the dry food portion for distribution to communities in remote areas.

  4. Coordinate with the community leader to prepare the number of recipients for the hot meal distribution. Also, organize communication strategies for effective outreach.

  5. On the scheduled day, the community leader will come to collect the food at the appointed location to await distribution.
