Aum Phang hospital provides a medical care for local people in Aum Phang sub-district. As its 247 kilometer, the farthest sub-district from the center of province, it therefore takes at least 6 hours up to a day in transferring patients to central and more flexible and well-prepared hospitals. Currently, the vehicle mostly uses Diesel as the main energy resource.

 

Each year, the diesel is a key energy used for hospital’s transportation. It fuels ambulances, 4-wheel-truck, and electric generators which are important for running other hospital activities. The examples are hospital mobile medical unit, incineration and cremation management, as well as transferring patients to other medical service places such as Tumbol Health Promoting Hospitals, Community Health Hospitals, Royal government clinic, village government clinic in wilderness areas. In fact, the diesel cost is a big burden for the hospital. It costs approximately 2 million bath and it is expected to increase continuously. 

In order to cope with this difficult situation, searching for diesel substitutions is really essential. The current substitution is “Biodiesel Oil” which is derived from used vegetable and animal-fat based oil. The finding expresses that there are a huge cooking oil consumption from street market stalls such as Pathong-Ko (deep-fried dough stick), fried meatballs, and deep-fried banana. The merchants reuse this oil many times until the oil turns black and sticky which contaminates and leaves rancid smell on the food. This unpleasant feeling also causes a direct effect to human body in terms of reducing food nutrition and leaving an over standard level of Acrylamide which leads to a severe cancer.

 

The situation comes worse when the demand of reused oil is still high. In the market, some buyers intend to buy this reused oil then reprocessing and selling it back to consumers. Therefore, using biodiesel does not only help preventing cancer expansion in society, but it also promotes the clean energy resource for vehicles among the community.
