And what about children?

Children with low immune systems are more prone to infection. Children with strong immune systems with latent TB infection have TB germs in their bodies but they are not sick because the germs are not active. But when their immune systems get weakened, the TB germs in their lungs will become active, multiply and spread; they eventually develop TB disease. Sometimes, germs can also spread to other parts of their body such as the membranes surrounding the brain known as “TB meningitis” which is a life-threatening condition. TB is a chronic and infectious disease, which can easily spread. Lack of proper TB treatment will result in an epidemic of tuberculosis, which can cause an economic and social impact eventually.
