Every 4 minutes will find a new paralysed patient in Thailand.
One-Sixth ofhumanhas risk to be paralysis.
Some paralysed patients have no chance to be cured. Some need to spend several years of treatment. So most of these patients have to go back home for recovering, which meanspatients’ families must buy special equipments for them, such as a sickbed.
Despite a recovery at home, many equipmentsare similar to the hospital. Because patients need sickbeds that designed for moving in different postures. They may have to buyair beds to prevent pressure ulcers as well. The price of these two things together are pretty high.
So if there are bed, whichare designed with functions to fill the needs of patients, that canreduce pressure ulcers and also consideredthemind, which arethebeauty and pleasant for users, would be very nice.
Miss Sikkaporn Chindapracha, the project’s owner of"AMAZING DAYBED,bed for cheering upparalysed patients, was inspired by her own motherthat was paralysis and started to have pressure ulcers. Therefore she designed a bed with back, arms, and legs adjustability, and also addedthe function that reduce pressure ulcers.
The bed thatSikkaporn has designed, is made ofleft over-hard wood from the furniture factory. It is designed to be beautiful as well. The bed pad is drilledto holesfor the insertion of balloons, which are made of Kidney Dialysis bags filled with air and covered with clothes. It imitates the function of an air bed which reduces pressure ulcers. The balloons can be inflated as needed.
She also said that ifa caregiver takes balloons out,a patient can defecate through these channels, and reduce the use of diapers. It also looks like a furniture, so the user is not depressed.
