**Patients with cleft lip and palate typically require 3–6 surgeries and need ongoing care throughout different stages of life (from birth to 20 years old). Continuous follow-up is essential, as the previously repaired palate can stretch with growth and may reopen.

Social issues
The core mission of the Smile Foundation is to provide free surgical treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate. Since its establishment in 1997, the foundation has performed life-changing surgeries for over 17,000 children and patients.
Each year, approximately 1 in 700 children is born with a cleft lip and palate, which can significantly impact their future quality of life. Despite ongoing efforts, many children still do not have access to corrective surgery.
The Smile Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to assisting underprivileged patients with cleft lip and palate, burn injuries, and other facial deformities at no cost. Every year, the foundation conducts four mobile medical unit programs in different provinces, treating at least 300 disadvantaged patients annually. The average cost for a single cleft lip or palate surgery ranges from 25,000 to 50,000 THB.
Approaches to addressing issues
Each year, the Smile Foundation plans patient care through two main programs: Ongoing Surgery Program – providing continuous surgical treatment with no time limitation. Mobile Medical Unit Program – conducting four missions in various provinces annually, treating at least 750 underprivileged patients each year.

มูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้ม เกิดขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2540 โดยได้รับความช่วยเหลือ และสนับสนุนจากอดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี พณฯท่าน อานันท์ ปันยารชุน และต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2544 มูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้ม ประเทศไทย จึงได้รับการจดทะเบียนก่อตั้งเป็นองค์กรการกุศล ให้การรักษาผู้ป่วยภาวะปากแหว่งเพดานโหว่ที่ยากไร้ อาศัยในพื้นที่ห่างไกลทั้งในประเทศไทยและประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน ซึ่งจวบจนกระทั่งถึงปัจจุบันมีการมอบการผ่าตัดเปลี่ยนชีวิตจากมูลนิธิสร้างรอยยิ้มไปแล้วกว่า 16,000 ครั้ง
