"Doi Tao Hospital is a 30-bed community hospital with a network of 9 health promotion hospitals. Within its community, there are 163 bedridden and home-bound patients with dependency needs. These patients urgently require essential, but expensive, equipment such as patient beds, air mattresses, oxygen concentrators, or wheelchairs. Many families cannot afford to purchase these items and must rely on borrowing equipment from the hospital, which is currently insufficient to meet the demand."

"Join us in raising funds to purchase 9 suction machines, 9 air mattresses, and 9 electric oxygen concentrators for the Doi Tao Hospital Palliative Care Center (ศูนย์ชีวาภิบาล). These devices will help reduce complications from illness, enabling patients to live happier and more comfortable lives."

Social issues

Doi Tao Hospital Medical Equipment Initiative

Doi Tao Hospital in Doi Tao District, Chiang Mai Province, is a 30-bed community hospital with a network of nine Health Promotion Hospitals.

A review of the Long-Term Care (LTC) Fund operations for the 2025 fiscal year revealed 163 home-bound or bedridden patients with dependency needs across all age groups and benefit schemes who received public health services or care under an Individual Care Plan. This group includes 101 home-bound patients and 62 bedridden patients.

Many of these elderly, bedridden, and disabled patients require medical supplies and equipment for their care, such as patient beds, air mattresses, oxygen concentrators, and wheelchairs. These items are often quite expensive, and many families cannot afford to purchase them. They currently rely on borrowing equipment from the hospital, but the existing supply is insufficient to meet the full needs of the patients.

The Doi Tao Hospital Palliative Care Center (ศูนย์ชีวาภิบาล) recognizes the importance of health care for these vulnerable patients. Therefore, it launched this project to procure medical materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure there are sufficient resources to meet patient demand. These resources are expected to help reduce complications from their illnesses, allowing the elderly, bedridden, and disabled patients to live happier and more comfortable lives.

Approaches to addressing issues

  1. Training and Proactive Identification: Train Village Health Volunteers (VHV/อสม.) or social workers who conduct home visits to proactively identify individuals needing medical equipment, rather than waiting for them to request it. Train family caregivers to properly look after patients and reduce complications from illness.

  2. Digital Inventory System: Establish a digital inventory system to track all medical equipment, including its location, condition, maintenance schedule, and borrower information. This will help prevent loss and ensure proper maintenance.

Operational Plan

  1. Project Briefing: Organize a meeting of the Continuous Care Center Committee to clarify the project's goals and implementation guidelines.

  2. Needs Assessment: Survey data on patients with dependency needs in the community and assess their requirements for medical materials and equipment.

  3. Inventory Listing: Prepare a detailed list of the medical materials and equipment requested for support.

  4. Budget Sourcing: Secure the necessary budget/funding.

  5. Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate patients' use of the materials and equipment to improve service delivery.
