We are deeply grateful to share that thanks to the generous support of everyone who has contributed, our crowdfunding campaign has successfully concluded. While we did not reach the fundraising target, we are pleased to confirm that the doctor dispatch program will proceed as planned.

To address the camp's urgent medical situation, IV-Thailand has pre-dispatched one doctor to Mae La Refugee Camp in April 2026. This placement is confirmed through March 2027. The crowdfunding proceeds will be combined with other funding sources to ensure that this program is carried out until the end.

  1. Doctor's Salary: 30,000 THB/month x 3 months, total 90,000THB*
*last month's salary will be a combined support of the proceed from Taejai crowdfunding and IV-Thailand's internal fund

Operational Plan:

  1. March 2026:
    - IV-Thailand discussed with Tha Song Yang Hospital to select and recruit the doctor that will work in Mae La Camp.
    - Tha Song Yang Hospital prepared a contract and hired the doctor.

    - The doctor began working at Tha Song Yang Hospital, Mae La Branch.

A Message from Our Sponsored Doctor

Our sponsored doctor, Dr. Kaung Zan Oo, has previously worked as a physician for 4 years before coming to Mae La Camp. Regarding his motivation to work, he said:

“I want to help the marginalized people… They [Mae La Camp residents] came from different backgrounds and have different ethnicities. Previously they received ration, but as you have heard, they no longer get rations now so it’s difficult. There are also limited job opportunities here. I am happy to help them through their difficulties. I want to give them prescriptions and give them treatment, which are my current responsibilities.”

Project UpdateVoices from the Ground: Video Message From Medical Staff in Mae La Camp

Activity time

Mar 15, 2026 - Mar 31, 2026

Dear Supporters and Friends,

We recently received a video message from the staff of the hospital in Mae La Camp. We thought it would be great to share this message with all of you, since this video not only allows you to hear directly from the people on the ground, but also gives you a rare glimpse into the reality within the camp.

In the video, the hospital director, deputy director and a nurse explained the struggle and needs of the hospital and its staff after the funding cut. In addition to the more obvious needs for medical equipment, medicines, infrastructure and facility updates, etc., they also voiced the desire to receive more training and learn Thai language, which will be most essential as they continue to work alongside Tha Song Yang hospital in Tak province.

“The most challenging practical hurdle we face”

Although the video does not mention personnel need, personnel cost is actually one of the most urgently needed funds on the current agenda. International aid and grants often prohibit spending on wages and salaries, which is why the hospital currently struggles to pay their staff and is under the risk of having to make further cuts even after already reducing 40% of their staff.

IV-Thailand’s campaign directly addresses this problem. Your donation does more than fill a gap; it revitalizes the hospital by contracting a dedicated doctor, lifting the heavy burden from the remaining staff.

“Sustaining healthcare together”

We are greatly moved by the support we have received so far and thank all supporters from the bottom of our heart.

However, the fight is still far from over. We still need to gather the fund to pay the salary of the doctor that will work at the camp. Please remember. Your support is the bridge that keeps 36,000 people connected to quality medical care. Please continue to share our campaign to your friends and family, and support us in whatever capacity you can.

Thank you.
