Gift of Sight Thailand: All Thai people deserve equal access to eye treatment. We aim to ensure no Thai person loses their sight due to cataracts or other eye diseases.
The People Eye Care Foundation (PECF) organizes mobile medical units to provide free surgeries every month (12 times a year), deploying to underserved community hospitals across Thailand and neighboring countries, such as Myanmar.
This ensures that the elderly and underprivileged patients suffering from cataracts or other complications can regain their vision, resume normal daily life, reduce the burden on their families, and improve the overall quality of life for the community.

Social issues
1. Lack of Knowledge and Access 🧠
Many patients, especially in remote areas, lack awareness that cataract treatment is free under state schemes, which causes them to delay seeking care. This ignorance contributes to $70\%$ of blindness in Thailand being caused by preventable cataracts.
2. System Overload and Delays ⏳
The public health system has an insufficient number of specialized ophthalmologists in rural areas and limited surgical equipment. This forces patients to larger centers, resulting in over $200,000$ patients annually waiting for surgery. Wait times average $\text{3-6 months}$ (sometimes up to a year), increasing the risk of the condition progressing and causing permanent blindness.
3. Financial and Psychological Burden 💸
Although the surgery itself is free, patients face significant hidden costs for travel (often $\text{50-100 km}$), accommodation, and caregiving. Psychologically, many elderly patients fear the surgery due to misinformation and are reluctant to seek help, fearing they will become a burden on their families.

If these access issues are not urgently addressed, the economic burden caused by cataract blindness is projected to triple in the next 10 years, placing a heavy strain on the public health system and decreasing the quality of life for the elderly population.

Reduce Wait Times: Provide free, high-standard surgery on-site, fully staffed with ophthalmologists and equipped with necessary instruments. 2. Education and Confidence: Dispel Fear: Use online channels and local media (leaflets/videos) to educate the elderly and their families that the surgery is highly safe. Build Trust: Provide pre-operative counseling to address patient anxiety, encouraging them to seek and complete treatment.
Past Results (Impact)In 2024, the foundation deployed its mobile medical units 12 times and successfully provided cataract surgery for 1,499 patients.This intervention helped restore vision, reduce the burden on families, and return a good quality of life to a large number of elderly patients.$\mathbf{97\%}$ of the treated patients regained their ability to live normally without relying on a caregiver, thereby alleviating the economic burden on their families and reducing inequality in access to medical services.
Key Difference from Other Agencies While government agencies, such as State Hospitals and the National Health Security Office (NHSO), already offer free cataract surgery programs, they face limitations regarding: Limited number of doctors and long waiting lists. Hidden costs for patients who must travel to central or university hospitals. The Foundation's mobile unit model addresses these gaps by bringing treatment directly to remote communities, thereby reducing patient travel burdens and speeding up the treatment process.

มูลนิธิพิทักษ์ดวงตาประชาชน People eye care foundation – ให้แสงสว่าง คืนการมองเห็น ตาพร่ามัวรอไม่ได้ มูลนิธิพิทักษ์ดวงตาประชาชน ให้ความช่วยเหลือด้านผ่าตัดตาต้อกระจกและโรคตาอื่นๆ ในถิ่นทุรกันดารโดยไม่คิดค่าใช้จ่าย เพื่อป้องกันภาวะตาบอดที่สามารถรักษาได้ (Preventable Blindness) ตลอด 31 ปีที่ผ่านมา เราได้ช่วยคืนการมองเห็นให้มากกว่า 47,820 ดวงตา ทั้งในประเทศไทย เมียนมาร์ และลาว มูลนิธิได้รับการจดทะเบียนโดยกระทรวงมหาดไทยเมื่อวันที่ 18 ตุลาคม 2537 และได้รับสถานะเป็นองค์การสาธารณกุศลลำดับที่ 279 จากกระทรวงการคลังเมื่อวันที่ 16 สิงหาคม 2538 ทำให้เงินบริจาคสามารถนำไปลดหย่อนภาษีได้ตามกฎหมาย มูลนิธิพิทักษ์ดวงตาประชาชน ก่อตั้งขึ้นเพื่อแก้ปัญหาการเข้าถึงการรักษาต้อกระจก ซึ่งเป็นสาเหตุหลักของภาวะตาบอดที่สามารถป้องกันได้ในประเทศไทย ด้วยประสบการณ์กว่า 30 ปี เราได้ช่วยคืนแสงสว่างให้แก่ผู้ป่วยกว่า 40,000 ดวงตาผ่านโครงการผ่าตัดฟรีในพื้นที่ห่างไกล ภารกิจของเราครอบคลุมตั้งแต่การออกหน่วยแพทย์ พัฒนาบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ วิจัยและพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีการรักษา ไปจนถึงการให้ความรู้แก่ประชาชนเพื่อการป้องกันอย่างยั่งยืน ปัญหาสำคัญที่ผู้ป่วยและผู้สูงอายุเผชิญคือ การขาดความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคต้อกระจก ระบบสาธารณสุขที่มีข้อจำกัด เช่น จำนวนจักษุแพทย์ที่ไม่เพียงพอ ระยะเวลารอคิวนาน และอุปกรณ์ที่ยังไม่ทั่วถึง นอกจากนี้ ผู้ป่วยหลายรายยังต้องเผชิญกับอุปสรรคด้านการเดินทาง ค่าใช้จ่ายแฝง และความกลัวในการเข้ารับการผ่าตัด ส่งผลให้ผู้ป่วยจำนวนมากต้องทนทุกข์กับภาวะสายตาพร่ามัวจนกระทบคุณภาพชีวิต และอาจนำไปสู่ภาวะตาบอดถาวร เรามุ่งมั่นสร้างโอกาสให้คนไทยทุกคนได้รับการรักษาต้อกระจกอย่างเท่าเทียม ผ่านโครงการ "Gift of Sight Thailand" ที่ไม่เพียงแค่รักษา แต่ยังมอบความรู้และการดูแลที่ยั่งยืนให้กับสังคม เราเชื่อว่า "ตาพร่ามัวรอไม่ได้" และด้วยความร่วมมือจากทุกภาคส่วน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นประชาชนทั่วไป ภาคธุรกิจ หรือองค์กรการกุศล จะช่วยให้เราสามารถส่งต่อรอยยิ้มและคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดีขึ้นให้กับผู้สูงอายุทั่วประเทศ
