Winter is coming… let’s join together to give blankets to children living on the mountains.

Every year, children living in highland areas of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Tak provinces face much colder weather than other parts of Thailand. Many families cannot afford new blankets or enough blankets for everyone in the household. As a result, children often fall ill and cannot attend school due to the freezing conditions.

We invite everyone to help bring warmth to over 2,000 children, many of whom live in dormitories we have built to support their education.

For just 160 Baht, you can give a child the gift of warmth and compassion during this cold season.

Social issues

In the highland areas of Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Tak provinces, temperatures during the winter are significantly lower than in the lowlands, especially at night and early morning, when temperatures can sometimes approach zero degrees Celsius. Most families in these communities are economically disadvantaged, with incomes insufficient to provide new blankets or enough blankets for all family members.

The main causes of the problem include:

  • Geography and climate – The highland terrain exposes residents to more severe cold than lowland areas.

  • Economic conditions – Most families earn income from farming or daily labor, which is not enough to purchase essential items such as warm clothing or new blankets.

  • Lack of basic necessities – Many children have only one blanket to share among the household or have to use unsuitable materials to keep warm.

  • Impact on education and health – Extreme cold makes children prone to illness, preventing them from attending school and affecting their learning and development.

This project was therefore initiated to address the challenges of cold weather, focusing on providing sufficient and appropriate blankets so that children can stay healthy and continue their education without interruption.

Approaches to addressing issues

  1. To address the challenges faced by children in highland areas during the winter, this project focuses on providing sufficient and appropriate blankets so that children can stay warm, healthy, and continue attending school. The key steps include: Identifying beneficiaries – Collaborating with local schools and communities in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Tak provinces to identify children in greatest need, especially those living in dormitories or with insufficient blankets. Fundraising and resource collection – The project accepts donations, with each contribution of 160 Baht providing a new blanket for one child. Purchasing quality blankets – Selecting blankets suitable for the extreme cold in highland areas, ensuring they are durable, thick, and safe for children of all ages. Distribution and community engagement – Distributing blankets directly to the children while working closely with the community.

Operational Plan

  1. Blanket Procurement Determine the number of blankets to purchase based on the total donations received. Purchase high-quality blankets suitable for the extreme cold in highland areas.

  2. Preparation and Packaging Inspect the quality of blankets before packaging. Prepare and package blankets for distribution.

  3. Identifying Beneficiaries Coordinate with local schools and communities. Create a list of children in greatest need of blankets.

  4. Blanket Distribution Organize a team of volunteers or representatives to deliver blankets to the field. Distribute blankets directly to children and record beneficiary information for transparency.

  5. Follow-Up and Monitoring Ensure blankets are being used as intended. Assess the impact on children’s health and school attendance.
