Presently there are many disabled children who have only partial physical disabilities but still able to communicate, understand and learn. However, due to financial constraints and various challenges faced by their families, many disabled children miss out on educational opportunities, losing out on their rights in many areas.

The EDF Foundation has recognized this issue and initiated the "Scholarship Program to Promote Disabled Students in Regular Schools," which has been providing scholarship of 5,000 baht per person per year since 2003 across all regions in Thailand.

The eligibility criteria include:

·      Being physically disabled or developmentally delayed but capable of communicating and learning.

·      Having parents or guardians with low income but would like their children to attend a regular school at the primary or secondary level.

These scholarships not only help alleviate the financial burden on families but also allow disabled children to attend schools with their peers in regular settings. This inclusion promotes their physical, intellectual and social development, as well as their ability to be self-sufficient in various situations. Over the past 20 years, more than 3,000 disabled students across Thailand received scholarships and opportunities from the EDF Foundation.

For the upcoming 2025 academic year, the EDF Foundation has forecasted that there would be not less than 400 disabled children from low-income families that would need assistance to access education in regular schools. However, financial limitations have thus far prevented them from receiving the opportunities they deserve.

Social issues

According to surveys conducted by the EDF Foundation, many disabled students with partial physical disabilities are capable of communication and understanding but are often neglected due to their family's poverty. These children frequently lack adequate care, even though they could have studied alongside their non-disabled peers in regular schools. Furthermore, parents often lack knowledge about the basic rights of disabled children, leading to these children being confined to their homes without opportunities for education or social interaction. This lack of engagement hinders their physical and mental development, as well as the acquisition of essential life skills for their independent lives in the future.

Approaches to addressing issues

  1. 1. Providing scholarships will help ease the financial burden on families of disabled children who lack resources. Scholarship covers expenses such as educational materials, transportation, medical care and lunch.

  2. 2. Scholarships will also ensure their opportunity to attend school consistently, allowing them to learn and socialize with their non-disabled peers.

Operational Plan

  1. Jun 2025

Donations for the project will be closed on June 30, 2025. The foundation will verify the enrollment information of students applying for scholarships.

  2. Jul - Aug 2568

The foundation will transfer scholarship funds to the students. Once students have received the scholarship funds, the project supervisors from each school will send a copy of the bank deposit slip back to the foundation as proof of the transaction.

  3. Sep - Oct 2568

The EDF Foundation will submit a report to donors about the students who received the scholarships.
