Vaccinations play a critical role in preventing contagious diseases that can spread rapidly, especially in areas with large dog populations.

In such environments, outbreaks can escalate quickly. The absence of vaccination is not just a gap in care, it can lead to avoidable suffering and loss.

The Man That Rescues Dogs (TMTRD) currently cares for over 830 dogs. Protecting them requires consistent and ongoing immunization across all groups, including puppies, newly rescued dogs, and those in long-term care.

It may seem like just “one vaccine shot”
but for them, it can mean the difference between safety and illness.

Be part of protecting them.

Costs:

  • 5-in-1 vaccine: approximately 180 THB per dose
  • 6-in-1 vaccine (including rabies): approximately 250 THB per dose

Social issues

Many of the dogs under the foundation’s care have been abandoned, are ill, or have never received proper veterinary attention. Many lack a clear vaccination history and are highly vulnerable to disease, especially in areas with large dog populations.

Contagious diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, and respiratory infections can spread rapidly without consistent prevention. Puppies require timely vaccinations due to their vulnerability, while newly rescued adult dogs must first build basic immunity before entering long-term care.

The challenge is not only the lack of vaccination in individual dogs, but the need to maintain a consistent, system-wide approach to health across all dogs in care. Without this, outbreaks can quickly affect many lives at once.

Prevention is the most effective way to reduce the risk of disease.

Consistent care helps prevent outbreaks and reduces the need for intensive treatment later on.

Approaches to addressing issues

  1. Our Approach The foundation focuses on a systematic approach to disease prevention by planning vaccinations based on the age and condition of each group of dogs, following veterinary guidance and protocols. We currently care for approximately 830 dogs, and vaccination planning is structured across three main groups:

  2. 1. Puppies (24 dogs) Receive a total of 3 vaccine doses per dog: First 2 doses: 5-in-1 vaccine → 48 doses Final dose: 6-in-1 vaccine (including rabies) → 24 doses → Total: 72 doses

  3. 2. Newly rescued adult dogs (63 dogs) Receive 6-in-1 vaccine, 2 doses per dog → Total: 126 doses

  4. 3. Annual vaccination (1 dose per year) (743 dogs) For dogs already living in the foundation → Total: 743 doses

Operational Plan

  1. Sep 2026 - Sep 2027

-Planning and Preparation Review the number of dogs in care, group them by age, and prepare vaccines according to appropriate programs. -Vaccination Implementation Administer vaccines according to the planned schedule. -Monitoring and Follow-up Care Monitor dogs after vaccination and provide booster doses as required to maintain immunity. -Evaluation and Reporting Summarize the results, including the number of vaccinated dogs, and evaluate outcomes to support future planning.

Project manager

The Man That Rescues Dogs Foundation The Man That Rescues Dogs (TMTRD) is a non-profit, non-political foundation dedicated to improving the lives of stray dogs in Thailand. Founded by Michael James Baines, a Swedish chef whose life changed after rescuing a single street dog, TMTRD has grown into a sanctuary caring for over 800 dogs and supporting more than 400 street dogs every day through feeding and medical outreach. At TMTRD, we believe every life has value. We provide full-scale care for stray dogs including medical treatment, vaccination, sterilization, rehabilitation, and rehoming—giving them a true second chance at life. The foundation also works closely with local communities to promote animal welfare education and social responsibility, while offering opportunities for young veterinarians to gain hands-on experience and grow through compassion-driven practice. Vision: To create a society where humans and dogs coexist peacefully—through understanding, kindness, and sustainable action.
