The Man That Rescues Dogs Foundation is committed to addressing the issue of stray dogs in Chonburi Province.

  • Our approach focuses on:
  1. Sterilization programs to prevent overpopulation and reduce the number of stray dogs.
  2. Community collaboration and education to promote responsible pet ownership and coexistence between people and animals.
  3. Medical care and rehabilitation for injured, abused, abandoned, and aggressive dogs to ensure their safety and well-being, as well as that of the community.

The shelter currently cares for over 800 dogs, with an average daily food expense of 7,832 THB.

Social issues

  • Abandonment of Pets
Many owners abandon their pets due to a lack of knowledge, responsibility, and understanding, leading to a continuous increase in the stray animal population.
  • Uncontrolled Animal Population
The lack of effective population control results in rapid breeding. Most puppies are abandoned because owners are unable to care for them, creating an endless cycle of stray animals.

  • Shortage of Human Resources for Care
There are often more rescued dogs than the shelter or caregivers can accommodate. Many of the dogs that arrive at the shelter suffer from health and behavioral issues caused by abuse, illness, old age, or neglect, and they require long-term rehabilitation and emotional recovery.

  • Impact on Society and Communities
Stray animals without owners can cause safety concerns, the spread of disease, and traffic accidents. As a result, many are brought to or rely on shelters for help and resolution.

Therefore, our shelter aims to reduce the number of stray animals sustainably, give them a second chance at life, and foster understanding and compassion between people and animals.

Approaches to addressing issues

  1. 1.Provide sufficient food for all 800 dogs in the shelter every day.

  2. 2.Ensure proper medical care, vaccinations, and sterilization to control the dog population in the long term, while restoring the physical and emotional health of dogs that have been abandoned or abused.

  3. 3.Educate local communities on proper care and feeding practices to promote peaceful and safe coexistence between people and dogs.

  4. 4.Create opportunities for stray dogs to be adopted into suitable and loving homes.

Operational Plan

  1. After receiving donations, the shelter will provide nutritious food for over 800 dogs, along with proper medical care, essential medicines, vaccines, and sterilization to control the population sustainably. We will also focus on rehabilitating dogs that were abandoned or abused, improving their physical and emotional health so they can start a new life. The shelter will be kept clean, safe, and suitable for living. In addition, we promote responsible adoption and work with local communities to raise awareness about compassionate and responsible pet ownership. Every baht donated will go directly toward improving the dogs’ quality of life and give them a true and sustainable second chance at life

The Man That Rescues Dogs Foundation The Man That Rescues Dogs (TMTRD) is a non-profit, non-political foundation dedicated to improving the lives of stray dogs in Thailand. Founded by Michael James Baines, a Swedish chef whose life changed after rescuing a single street dog, TMTRD has grown into a sanctuary caring for over 800 dogs and supporting more than 400 street dogs every day through feeding and medical outreach. At TMTRD, we believe every life has value. We provide full-scale care for stray dogs including medical treatment, vaccination, sterilization, rehabilitation, and rehoming—giving them a true second chance at life. The foundation also works closely with local communities to promote animal welfare education and social responsibility, while offering opportunities for young veterinarians to gain hands-on experience and grow through compassion-driven practice. Vision: To create a society where humans and dogs coexist peacefully—through understanding, kindness, and sustainable action.
