Pan Pan Kan Project 2021 (Cycle to Share)

Introduction of Whisky Team

Whisky Team was originated by a group of close friends who like to get together for socializing as well as challenging each other to participate in endurance sport races. Although the team members like to drink, we also realize the importance of exercise and good health. We train together and race together in many local and international competitions.

The founders of the team were Mr. Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, Mr. Sweak Prakitrittanon, Mr. Korpong Engtrakul , Mr. Kittichai Teachakulwanich and Mr. Prasert Fuangfooskul. The founding members joined a domestic triathlon in 2015 for Individual Team Relay category, followed by marathon and trail running programs. They joined the race as a team named ‘Whisky Team’. 

Later on, the team expanded. The members invited more drinking friends to join races and build the awareness of maintaining good health. The team has increased to more than 90 members. Many members commit themselves to train hard and have obtained lots of awards and trophies continuously and become well-known in Triathlon or Trail Running circles.

Project Details:

There are many children living in remote areas in Thailand, who are malnourished and deficient in nutrition. The schools have insufficient budgets to provide quality meals that meet principle nutrition standards to children. Over 2.9 million children in Thailand between 6 – 14 years old, the equivalent of one in three, suffer from malnutrition or do not get the balanced nutrition that the body needs. (References: Malnutrition in Children, Health Data Center, Ministry of Public Health (2020) and Population Statistics from National Statistical Office). 

The information of the Department of Public Health in 2015 mentioned that children living in remote areas have a higher chance of malnutrition than children living in urban areas. This causes poor growth, low efficiency in brain development and may obstruct them from the bright future they should have. The Ministry of Education has the policy to support luncheons to children from kindergarten to the primary school level, in the budget of 20 baht per child, however, there are many schools still facing complex problems, this may impact children living in remote areas. 

In 2021, The Whisky Team, one of the Triathlon teams of Thailand, sees the problem of malnutrition of children living in remote areas. So, the team members got together to launch the “Pan Pan Kan Project 2021” (Cycle to Share), a long-distance cycling activity from Bangkok – Chiang Mai.

The goals of this project are to raise donation funds as well as to invite people who live near the cycling routes of each province to participate and cycle together. This will be a fundraiser to provide 240,000 better quality meals for 600 underprivileged children in six schools for the period of two years. We believe that good health comes from exercising, but nutritious food is also essential for everyone’s good health.

Hence, we collaborate with FOOD FOR GOOD, under Yuvabadhana Foundation and Taejai.com and will volunteer to look after children living in remote areas to have better nutrition and provide the opportunity to improve knowledge in every aspect. So, we will offer scholarships and support to six schools as per the information below.

GOOD FOOD To provide quality meals to schools in remote areas with sufficient nutrition, a varied choice of food, for adequate body growth as well as good nourishment in the period of two years in order to decrease the number of children with malnutrition. 

GOOD KNOWLEDGE Not only will the children be taken care of, but the teachers will also be given knowledge and ability about food nutrition and food management in schools correctly. There will be a nutritionist to consult during the whole project. This will help them to share their knowledge with future teachers.   

GOOD FARM For sustainable food sources, we will support safe food sources such as organic farming, mushroom farms, chicken farms and fish farms. To promote the revolving fund and food security for children living in remote areas in the long term.  

GOOD HEALTH During the project, GOOD FOR FOOD will follow up and keep track of nutrition in schools and work close to children with “malnutrition condition” and also monitor the risk group and work together with local public health. 

The Criteria of Selecting Schools

1. Schools with more than 15% of children with malnutrition.
2. Small schools with a small number of children, with a high constant rate result
3. Remote schools in difficult-to-access areas, with a high budget for food logistics.

For the secondary school students in Educational Opportunity Expansion schools who do not receive the food budget, the school will support the food budget at approximately 9-15 baht/ meal. 

During the whole project, we and FOOD FOR GOOD will look after 600 children together and provide every meal for two years, about 240,000 meals in total. This will help children to receive good nutrition, happiness and smiles to all.
