"Renovating the negative pressure examination room to prepare for emerging pediatric diseases and provide care for children with severe infections and emerging infectious diseases according to modern standards.
From the global outbreak of COVID-19, humanity has faced one of the most severe pandemics in modern history.
Beyond its rapid transmission, the disease has deeply affected both the physical and mental health of people of all ages. Every family—adults and children alike—has been touched by this unprecedented crisis.
COVID-19 is a newly emerging infectious disease that has had a devastating global impact due to its high transmissibility. Alongside previous outbreaks such as SARS, avian flu, and monkeypox, it has brought fear, panic, misinformation, and exposed the unpreparedness of crisis response systems. In many cases, hospitals could only manage to cope and stabilize the situation as best they could.
At the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health (Children’s Hospital), there has never been a dedicated area specifically designed for examining emerging infectious diseases. This increases the risk of cross-contamination between patients and even healthcare workers.
In past emergencies, temporary spaces were hastily adapted for urgent patient care—but these makeshift areas were far from ideal, especially for children, whose treatment requires special attention and care different from adults.
To properly and safely care for young patients, the hospital urgently needs to establish a Negative Pressure Examination Room for Emerging Infectious Diseases in Children — a facility designed to effectively prevent disease spread and ensure safe treatment for both children and medical staff.

จากสถานการณ์แพร่ระบาดของโรคโควิด-19 ลุกลามไปทั่วโลก จนส่งผลกระทบรุนแรงกว่าหลายๆการระบาดของโรคอุบัติใหม่ในอดีต
นอกเหนือไปจากความรวดเร็วในการแพร่กระจายของเชื้อ ความรุนแรงของโรค ได้ส่งผลกระทบในด้านสุขภาพทั้งทางร่างกายและจิตใจของทุกคนในครอบครัว ไม่ว่าจะผู้ใหญ่หรือเด็ก ต่างได้รับบทเรียนในปรากฏการณ์ครั้งนี้
โรคติดเชื้อ โควิด-19 ถือเป็น โรคอุบัติใหม่ที่ส่งผลรุนแรงต่อพวกเราทุกคน เพราะมีการแพร่กระจายของโรคอย่างรวดเร็ว ไม่นับรวมโรคซาร์ ไข้หวัดนก ฝีดาษลิงที่พบก่อนหน้า "ความหวาดกลัว ความตื่นตระหนก และความเข้าใจที่คลาดเคลื่อน หรือระบบการจัดการกับภาวะวิกฤตที่โถมเข้ามารวดเร็ว แทบไม่ทันตั้งตัว ทำให้การดูแลรับมือ ทำได้เพียงประคองให้ผ่านพันไป”
ที่ผ่านมาสถาบันสุขภาพเด็กแห่งชาติมหาราชินี (โรงพยาบาลเด็ก) ไม่เคยมีพื้นที่จำเพาะ สำหรับตรวจโรคอุบัติใหม่ ทำให้มีโอกาสเกิดการปะปนของผู้ป่วยกันเอง และ/หรือ ปะปนกับบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ โรงพยาบาลได้มีการแก้ปัญหาเฉพาะหน้าด้วยการปรับปรุงพื้นที่บางส่วนเพื่อการดูแลคนไข้อย่างเร่งด่วน
แต่ก็ยังมีปัญหาเรื่องสถานที่ที่ไม่เหมาะสมกับผู้ป่วยเด็กที่มีรายละเอียดและความยุ่งยากซับซ้อนที่แตกต่างจากการดูแลผู้ป่วยผู้ใหญ่ โดยเด็กเล็กไม่สามารถดูแลตัวเองได้ จึงจำเป็นต้องมีการจัดสร้าง “ห้องตรวจโรคความดันลบ รับมือโรคอุบัติใหม่ในเด็ก
Approaches to addressing issues
Why a Negative Pressure Room is Essential Normally, air flows from areas of higher pressure to lower pressure. In a negative pressure room, the air pressure inside the room is kept lower than the surrounding areas so that contaminated air cannot escape when doors are opened or closed. The room is equipped with a double-door entry system and a specialized air filtration system that disinfects and filters the air before releasing it outside through a controlled ventilation system. This ensures that infectious particles do not spread to other patients or to medical personnel caring for them. Such rooms are crucial for treating respiratory infectious diseases that spread easily, including common illnesses such as measles, tuberculosis, and chickenpox, as well as severe emerging diseases like SARS and COVID-19 — a global crisis that continues to affect us all.

สถาบันสุขภาพเด็กแห่งชาติมหาราชินี หรือ โรงพยาบาลเด็ก มีความต้องการอาคารบริการใหม่ เพื่อรองรับการให้บริการที่เจริญเติบโตขึ้น พร้อมเครื่องมืออุปกรณ์ ตลอดจนงบประมาณในการพัฒนาบุคลากรทางการแพทย์เฉพาะทางโรคเด็ก โดยได้รับงบประมาณสนับสนุนการก่อสร้างอาคารใหม่จากทางราชการร่วมกับสำนักงานสลากกินแบ่งรัฐบาล เป็นเงิน 1,000 ล้านบาท และต้องระดมทุนจากภาคประชาชน เอกชน อีกจำนวน 600 ล้านบาท เพื่อสมทบทุนการก่อสร้างอาคาร การตกแต่งภายในอาคาร และการจัดหาครุภัณฑ์การแพทย์ที่ทันสมัย และมีประสิทธิภาพสูงขึ้น ตลอดจนการพัฒนาบุคลากรทางการแพทย์
