Cataract is commonly found in adults aged above 60 years old.
Cataracts are caused by a build-up of protein that clouds the eye’s lens, which can lead to blurred vision and eventual blindness. Those with history of smoking, malnutrition, diabetes or long exposure to the sun or long term use of certain eye-drops are more vulnerable to cataract.
During the surgery, the clouded lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens.
Other common eye-health issues found in old adults include pterygium, glaucoma as well as infections and diseases near/on eyelids. Treatment of such illnesses must be evaluated by specialist.
