Creative Migration is a women-of-color-led, international arts organization based in Los Angeles and Bangkok. Our mission is to bring together cultural and climate diplomacy, focusing on collaborative community building through intersectional practices. Creative Migration was founded in 2005 by our Executive Director, Susannah Tantemsapya, in California. She expanded operations to Thailand in 2018 to open our largest project to date, Bangkok 1899, through seed funding from The Rockefeller Foundation and Ford Philanthropy. Bangkok 1899 is a place where vibrant exhibitions and performances come to life, cultivated through our signature International Artist Residency program and community-led projects. We gratefully acknowledge major support from the ECCA Family Foundation and Ford Philanthropy in 2025.
Bangkok 1899 is a vibrant cultural & civic hub in the heart of the city where art, design, urbanism and social innovation connect. Established in 2019 by Creative Migration in partnership with Na Projects, it bridges cultural and climate diplomacy to ignite community-driven action, serving as a gathering place for local and international communities.
Creatives for Climate Action - Thailand (CCAT) originated as a project under the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) Cluster Thailand, which was produced by Creative Migration in collaboration with the Creative Economy Agency (CEA). It is the first climate-focused initiative of its kind in Thailand’s cultural sector and now serves as a model for regional adaptation and multilateral partnership. Through the 2024 conference, we published a bilingual digital toolkit includes case studies, knowledge shared during the conference, a resource database and best practices for sustainable event management for the Thai creative sector. For the first-ever Bangkok Climate Action Week (BKKCAW) 2025, we produced a Field Manual for event organizers along with the CCAT Global Hub that curated a week-long program of culture-based climate action.
